Prima ediţie a conferinţei “Communicating Europe”

[First Edition of the”Communicating Europe” Conference]

(Bucharest, December 11-12, 2009)

The first edition of the “Communicating Europe” conference gathered together professors and students from the MSc in Project Management, as well as practitioners in the field of EU-funded project and EU communication in Romania. The presented papers stimulated an intense debate on EU communication and on the recent EU-funded projects awareness and publicity campaigns carried out in Romania.

A doua ediţie a Conferinţei “Communicating Europe”

[Second Edition of the”Communicating Europe” Conference]

(Bucharest, November 12th, 2010)

Due to the success of the first edition of the “Communicating Europe” conference, we have decided to make efforts in order to ensure a greater visibility for the second edition of this conference and for the Jean Monnet European Module itself. This is why the 2010 edition of the “Communicating Europe” was delivered as a special panel of the 4th edition of the International Conference on “Globalisation and Changing Patterns in the Public Sphere”, organised by the College of Communication and Public Relations.

The connection between the topic of this major event held annually at our College and the goal of the Jean Monnet European Module has been one of the main reasons for which the two were linked together. As expected, the Conference has generated a lively debate on the changing patterns in the public sphere triggered by global changes in the media, politics, economy and culture. Furthermore, the disputable issue of the development of (a) public sphere(s) within the European Union has also drawn the interest of many participants.

This year’s “Communicating Europe” has benefited from the presence and input of one of the most renowned scholars who have worked on the EU communication and European public sphere. Professor Claes H. de Vreese, Chair of Political Communication and Scientific Director of the Amsterdam School of Communication Research ASCoR at the Department of Communication Science, University of Amsterdam was a keynote speaker at the Conference. In his keynote address, he presented some findings of an ample research project on the framing of Europe in the news. His talk entitled “The Changing Composition of European Public Spheres” has added great value to the Conference and to the subsequent discussions within the “Communicating Europe” panel. He has attended the panel and has contributed to the debated generated by the presentations.
